SOTER,
leaders in the foamed asphalt business,
have once again proven their ability to be innovative as they present
their PM-400 cold mix plant. Entirely designed and built by Soter, this
plant offers all of the mixing characteristics of any cold mix plant but
with the advantage of having Soter's foamed asphalt system. With the
PM-400, you can mix what you want and where you want with a precision that
is second to none.
Because Soter is both a manufacturer and a contractor, they have designed their plant to be the most effective with the ease of operation any contractor wants. The PM-400 is a self contained unit that can be installed on small sites and in barely half a day. All the control panels are at ground level for ease of operation and the plant's production rate can vary between 100 and 450 metric tons per hour depending on the density of the material used.
The rear hopper is divided into 2 compartments each with its own adjustable flow gate permitting the use of 2 different granular or sandy materials within a mix. The plant also has its own fluidification chamber for the addition of powder materials such as cement, lime or even bentonite. This chamber is equipped with Soter's custom built high precision weight scale for the accurate measurement of the powder material. When one of Soter's client asks what percentage of powder they add on a certain job site, the answer will not be about 1% nor close to 1,5%, but try 1,53%. Precision that makes any client satisfied.
The material is then carried along a transfer conveyor also equipped with a Ramsey scale. The scale data is transferred to the Soter control box where all flows are monitored and adjusted as required. The mixer of the plant is a 10 feet long pugmill type continuous mixer powered by a 70 Hp electric motor. The material then falls onto a stacking conveyor to be either stockpiled or dumped into trucks.
Of course, Soter's PM-400 is equipped with a foamed asphalt system offering numerous advantages when compared to emulsion binders. Well over 500 000 metric tons of material were foam stabilized with Soter's PM-400 in the past 3 years. Other than Canada, the PM-400 plant is also found in Mexico and England.
