RULA tells you a task deserves attention. It does not tell you what changed, whether the control worked, or how the same task scores across a shift.

What is a RULA assessment?
Rapid Upper Limb Assessment is a screening method for musculoskeletal risk in the upper body. It scores upper arm, lower arm, wrist, neck, trunk and legs, adds muscle use and force, and combines them into a grand score from 1 to 7 with a matching action level.
What does my RULA score mean?
A score of 1 or 2 is acceptable if the posture is not held or repeated for long periods. 3 or 4 means further investigation is needed and changes may be required. 5 or 6 means investigation and changes are required soon. A score of 7 means investigation and changes are required immediately.
Is this calculator accurate?
It applies the published RULA tables exactly, including Table A, Table B and Table C, plus the muscle use and force scores. The result is only as accurate as the postures you select, which is why the calculator shows which joint drives the score so you can check that input first.
Does the calculator send my data anywhere?
No. The score is calculated in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored or attached to an account, and no sign-up is required.
What is the difference between RULA and REBA?
RULA focuses on the upper body and suits seated work, screen work and repetitive hand tasks. REBA, Rapid Entire Body Assessment, covers the whole body including legs and suits lifting and manual handling. Teams often run both across a site.
Can RULA replace an ergonomics assessor?
No. RULA is a screening method. It tells you which tasks deserve a closer look and which joint to look at first. Selecting the controls, confirming the finding and signing it off stays with a competent assessor.
